PMHNP
Preceptorship Program
The Aspire Medical Group Clinical Preceptorship Program aims to provide a high-quality clinical experience for current Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) students. The clinical practicum is a critical component that fulfills the requirements for graduation and prepares students for professional success in the field of mental health care.
During the preceptorship, students will have the opportunity to work closely with our lead psychiatric nurse practitioner Betty Yu, who will provide individualized guidance and mentorship. This close collaboration ensures that students develop the necessary clinical knowledge and assessment skills required to deliver excellent mental health care and achieve professional success.
Clinical practicums form a crucial element of nursing education, serving as a bridge that links academic theory to real-life healthcare scenarios. These immersive experiences enable students to translate their didactic education into clinical practice, gain hands-on experience while fostering the development of novel clinical skills.
In essence, the Aspire Medical Group Clinical Preceptorship Program presents an invaluable platform for PMHNP students to acquire experiential knowledge. This program offers more than just practical training; it provides students the opportunity to gain insights from seasoned practitioners. Furthermore, it equips them with the requisite skills to excel in their impending careers the mental health care sector.
Please note that this program is conducted entirely on-site. Telehealth or remote participation is not an option. Students are expected to be physically present in the office to gain hands-on experience, engage in face-to-face interactions with patients and staff, and fully immerse themselves in the clinical environment.
Gain Practical Experience
Through a combination of hands-on training and classroom instruction, our students continuously build their skills to advance their careers and enhance patient care. To ensure a high-quality learning experience, we limit the number of students accepted each semester. Early application is strongly encouraged.
During the clinical practicum, students will be supervised by an ANCC Board-Certified PMHNP. Students will perform both in-person and telehealth encounters to build practical experience as they perform psychiatric comprehensive mental health evaluations, develop differential diagnosis based on the patient’s chief complaint, complete psychiatric interviews and progress notes, develop psychiatric mental health care plans, recommend pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, and follow-up with the patient to assess their response to treatment and monitor for side effects of the prescribed medications.
We treat patients across the lifespan, however, children and adolescents are limited in numbers for new intakes, particularly during the summer and school breaks. We will do everything we can to meet your program's requirements, so it is essential that you convey them beforehand.
Students will be scheduled at least two (2) 8-hour shifts per week for the typical 15-16 week semester. Any accelerated program requirements should be conveyed beforehand.
