Vivitrol® is a once-monthly injection, administered by a licensed provider to help reduce alcohol consumption and is also used in the treatment of opioid dependence. Vivitrol® can be administered once the patient has detoxed from opioids. Vivitrol® is best utilized as a part of a comprehensive treatment plan, in addition to psychotherapy.
One of the main problems with the daily dosages of naltrexone was medication compliance; patients had to remember and be willing to take the pills each day. With the once-a-month shot, medication compliance is less of a factor in the treatment plan.
We want to know your needs exactly so that we can provide the perfect solution. Let us know what you want and we’ll do our best to help.
Vivitrol® is the brand name for the medication, Naltrexone. Vivitrol® is a once-monthly intramuscular injection, administered by your provider to help reduce alcohol consumption. Vivitrol® is also used in Opioid recovery. Vivitrol® can be administered once the patient has detoxed from opioids.
Vivitrol® is non-addictive. It is not opioid-based.
Vivitrol® works to block the part of the brain that craves alcohol or opiates, resulting in an easier transition to sobriety. All forms of naltrexone work by stopping the euphoria and sedation that central nervous system depressants, specifically alcohol and opioids, can cause. The medicine binds to those receptor sites in lieu of the intoxicating substances and stays there for a long time. When a person taking any form of naltrexone as prescribed relapses, the drug will not bind to the opioid receptor sites, so there will be no high associated with using the substance after detoxing.
Vivitrol® is currently approved by the FDA for the treatment of Alcohol and Opiate Dependence.
